Sheable Foundation is a youth-run non-profit organization based in Kolkata, India and is registered under section 80G of The Income Tax Act, 1961.
We aim to improve menstrual health conditions for underprivileged women in society and encourage gender equity in STEM education.
Our motto is “EmpowHER” and we try our best to help menstruators overcome the problems they face due to a lack of proper menstrual products. We have distributed 1,50,000 + sanitary napkins amongst underprivileged menstruators till date and directly impacted 3500+ women.
How We Started
We strongly believe that no one is too young to bring about a change. I was teaching underprivileged kids from a small village in West Bengal with basic technological skills and upon interacting with them, I realized how big of a hindrance menstruation was for them. The incident truly moved me, so, I decided to step up and take action. We endeavor to empower women and work specifically around the causes of menstrual equity and gender equity in STEM.
Journey So Far
Starting Sheable Foundation
I, Anvesha Saraf, a 16-year-old, started Sheable Foundation on 3rd September 2020 to help “EmpowHER” with the belief that no one is too young to bring about a change.
Distribution Drives in Slums
Through a tie-up with Lions of Calcutta Chetna, we made various distribution drives in the slum regions in Kolkata and adjacent areas like Sundarbans, believing that they needed these bare necessities the most.
Sensitisation Programs
We introduced MENSTRUAL CUPS as an eco-friendly alternative and held sensitization programs about menstrual hygiene through our tie-up with HOPE FOUNDATION.
We have also conducted online seminars incollaboration with CINI and educated young girls about menstrual hygiene.
We’ve also conducted sensitization and distribution sessions at the learning center: Ek Prayaas.
We introduced the girls at the learning center to reusable sanitary napkins and educated them on how using them would have several personal and environmental benefits.
